Let me introduce some contextual pieces of who I am and why I'm here. I was born and raised in northern Newfoundland where my family has settled since the 1700's. I was indoctrinated into the Pentecostal church at a young age, simmering in their teachings until I left the church at the age of 14. Speaking to labels in a western context, I am a disabled neurodiverse lesbian with a justice-seeking heart.

My first undergraduate degree was in East Asian studies, where I learnt Mandarin and Japanese language, history, culture, and 'religious' observations in the East. With advanced proficiency in Japanese, I still think and contemplate in Japanese which influence choices, actions, and perspectives I carry into the world 今日.

My second degree was in social work, where my focus was gender-based violence, activism, anti-racism, critical whiteness, and trauma-informed practice. This later expanded to accessibility & anti-disablism, inclusion & belonging, and self-sustainability for those working in oppressive systems.

I've worked in post-secondary, healthcare, unions, non-profit, and government agencies spanning fields of sexualized violence, anti-human trafficking, commercial exploitation of children and youth, housing, mental health, addictions, harm reduction, and spent over 7 years throughout inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility (IDEA) aspects of the work.

My last position was a teetering balance between EDI and Indigenous Knowledge. Here, I framed EDI in a northern (Canada) context wherein we are all Treaty People and we are all responsible in pursuing Truth and Reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples. I highly recommend you read through the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action, the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, and the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls' Final Report with 231 Calls for Justice.

Combining my various knowings (academic, professional, experiential, &+more) through lateral thinking has allowed me to see our western society for what it is-- an intentional violent domination over Turtle Island, Mother Earth herself, and all living creatures living in reciprocity with her. Along with knowledges gained working in anti-human trafficking and the commercial sexual exploitation of children and youth, I hold knowings that are often not welcomed a seat at the table.

Considered to be taboo, triggering, or inappropriate for collective discussion keeps these topics hidden just beneath the surface. As someone connecting the dots, I feel called to share my knowledge with those still fighting these battles; those isolated, pressured, and silenced throughout their lines of work. I want to share my learnings and offer support to those who feel unsupported by their peers.

Below, you'll find a link to a 7-part video series I did exploring 7 different kinds of knowledge frameworks. Here, I am constructing my own unique Ethical Knowing. I call it unique as I am one human, and I believe we all have unique ethical knowings within us, should we bring our awareness to their existence.
